News from Paso Robles: WOPN, Firestone Walker Brewery, and More

As you’ve seen in the past month or so we have started doing some blog posts on news, events, and updates from Paso Robles. There is always so much going on, especially now as we head closer to Spring. Below you will find some links to things that were either forwarded to us or that we found to be interesting. Take a look and let us know if you want anything mentioned in future “News from Paso Robles” posts. Read more…

Paso Robles Wine: Lone Madrone

Heard of it? Been there? The winemaker and co-owner of Lone Madrone, Neil Collins, is also the Executive Winemaker and Vineyard Manager at Tablas Creek here in Paso Robles. We’ve talked about Tablas Creek before on the blog but we haven’t really mentioned Lone Madrone much, if at all. So on our way home from Cambria this past weekend we decided to stop off and check them out again. It had been a while but we have visited their tasting room several times in the past. Read more…

News From Paso Robles: San Francisco Giants and Vina Robles Winery

I know this part has nothing to do with wine or food here in paradise but it does have to do with Annie’s favorite baseball team and one of my two favorite baseball teams. The San Francisco giants World Series trophy has been on tour and is scheduled to be in the Paso Robles Downtown Park (in the gazebo) on February 15th!! That’s a Friday so take your kids out of school and call in sick to work and get your butt to the park. I want to go and get a picture of Sammy with the trophy if I can, that would be pretty darn cool if you ask me. Read more…

Crush and Roll West 2012: The Out Takes

Crush and Roll 2012

Crush and Roll 2012

If you know anything about us you know that we love wine, beer, food, and stogies; and even though Annie was pregnant at the time of Crush and Roll West 2012 she went to support our friends at the event as well as my continued “usage” of all these wonderful items. Read more…

Paso Robles Wine, East Vs. West

Today’s post is simple…there has been talk off and on about dividing up Paso Robles wine country into many AVA’s rather than simply use the current Paso Robles AVA. My personal opinion is that this is not good for the area. Most of the people that come to Paso or that buy Paso Robles wine do not know Huer Huero, Templeton Gap, Pomar, Estrella, and so on; which could hurt the business of Paso Robles wine. I just think Paso is still a bit young to have a division like this. Much of this talk comes down to a more simplified separation of west versus east with the dividing line being Highway 101. Claiborne and Churchill

Claiborne and Churchill; Our First Visit to This SLO Winery

One of the things I love about this area is that we have been unable to keep up with and visit all the wineries. This plays perfectly into our ongoing adventure in the San Luis Obispo County wine world! On our way down to Santa Maria for family fun a couple of weeks ago we decided to stop off in south San Luis Obispo and visit Claiborne & Churchill Winery. We had been recently reminded of them when we saw them at the Gourmet Mac & Cheese Festival in Paso Robles. To be totally transparent, I’ve also been meaning to get down there because they are SIP Certified and I do some social media work for the Central Coast Vineyard Team which is responsible for SIP Certifications. The Cork Dorks

Cork Dork? Everybody Needs One in Their Life!

That being said, we feel pretty lucky to have two. Our buddies Adam and Jeremy make up the local dynamic duo infamously referred to as “The Cork Dorks”. We knew these guys before they were “Cork Dorks”, but does that mean they were just “dorks” when we met them? A question for us to ponder the next time we are sharing a bottle or six of wine with them. Read more…

Mac&Cheese

A Gourmet Mac & Cheese Festival…Really?

Yes my friends, I would not tease you with such a splendid thought. That’s like telling someone that there’s bacon for breakfast but when you sit down to eat breakfast…there’s no bacon. So we have to throw out a big HELL YEAH to the first Gourmet Mac & Cheese Festival and the geniuses that thought of it! And where else could you possibly have a mac & cheese festival other than paradise? That’s right, it was right here in Paso Robles. Read more…

Crush and Roll

Crush and Roll; Sip, Smoke, and Savor at Roxo Port Cellars

This past Saturday evening we headed out to the Westside of Paso Robles to attend Sip, Smoke, and Savor at Roxo Port Cellars. They’ve put a handful of these events together at the tasting room that they share with Chateau Margene on the corner of Vineyard Drive and Peachy Canyon Road. I view these events as as mini, pre-Crush and Roll events. Read more…
