The Future of Hoot n Annie and Social Media

I posted this comment on my personal Facebook page (Matt Browne) yesterday:

“I’m thinking about getting rid of our Hoot ‘n Annie and Little Browne Facebook pages. Instead of spending the time updating 3 different FB handles I would just do this one. We’ve been downsizing in life with stuff and bills and all that, now I want to attack the things that absorb so much of my time. I look at all the non financial stuff as mental or emotional debt…and I don’t like debt. Time to do an audit. Any thoughts?” Read more…

Thoughts on Sustainability and Earth Day Food & Wine Festival

Earth Day Food and Wine Festival has been one of my favorite events since we were introduced to it 4 or 5 years ago. You’ve heard me talk about how laid back it is but all for such a great cause…sustainability. The last few years Annie and I have been doing things in our life together to work on being more sustainable when it comes to money, food, food waste, consuming stuff, and so on. Much of our inspiration has come from this event and the folks that put this event on…the Central Coast Vineyard Team, which is behind the SIP (Sustainability in Practice) Certification for vineyards and wineries. News from Paso Robles: Zin Fest Weekend

Don’t know what to do this weekend?? Well, if you’re in or around Paso Robles it’s time to get your Zin on. Starting today and going through Sunday, most wineries are having some form of event at their place. It may be live music and food or it may be the anti-Zin party…who knows. Bottom line is that there are tons of parties happening this weekend so I suggest you get your butt out there and shake it like there’s no tomorrow. All you have to do is check with the wineries you’re interested in to find out what they’re up to. Read more…

Charity in Paso Robles Wine Country

There’s a relatively new charity that we have become involved with called “must! charities”. Its focus is on the North County of San Luis Obispo County…so Santa Margarita to San Miguel. It was started by some cool folks in the Paso Robles wine industry and we are very happy to be part of it. Read more…

Road Trip: Monterey, California

A couple of weeks back I had some work to take care of in the Monterey area so Annie and I decided to make it our first road trip with Sammy to test him (but mostly test us) on how he would do on a 2 hour and 15 minute drive as well as two nights away from home in a hotel. It was also our last little trip prior to Annie going back to work full time. Read more…

Paso Robles Wine Business and WiVi

I saw this article this morning titled “Central Coast Wine Business is Strong and Growing” and it made me smile…I’m glad business is strong. Although, depending on who you speak with, that opinion may differ.

It was also a reminder that WiVi (Wine & Viticulture) Central Coast is coming up (March 19-20) at the Paso Robles Event Center, a new symposium and tradeshow that you really should check out if you’re at all into the wine thing…which I’m assuming you are if you’re reading our blog. Here’s a link to the WiVi website with more info. Read more…

Social Media and the Wine Business

As a lover of both wine and social media it only seemed logical to start trying to bring those two things together some years ago. I initially did this by starting a wine and lifestyle blog with my wife and eventually turned that into also consulting wineries (and other hospitality related businesses) on what social media is and how to use it. Christmas Eve 2012: What a Difference a Year Makes

Christmas is here…again…already. Time flies when you’re having fun, spend a lot of your time buzzed, and have a baby. Yep, as you know that’s the biggest difference between last Christmas and this Christmas; the addition of Samuel Liberty (otherwise known as Sammy or Little Browne).

Last year Annie and I decided to get out of town for a couple of days right before Christmas and figured Monterey would be a good spot. The crappy thing was that we were pregnant but ended up having a miscarriage a few days before we left for Monterey. It was a very surreal, odd, crazy, and intense time for us. We were trying to take it all in and see where the chips would fall. The trip to Monterey ended up being really good for us, we had an amazing time and it allowed us to regroup and move forward on the right foot. Read more…
