Recently I had some thoughts regarding the restaurant industry, and because most of the dining I do is in my local area I will have to speak from my experience here. There has been this huge push for local, fresh, farm to fork type dining and I am a huge fan of it. I’ve also noticed the push toward taking certain foods, reinventing them, and creating a new craze. Breaking News: Artisan of Paso Robles is on the MOVE!
That’s right…Artisan, one of the best restaurants in Paso Robles is moving right downtown and we couldn’t be more excited! “But wait”, you might be saying, “I thought they already were downtown!?!?”. Yes, technically, the original location is downtown, but about 2 blocks off the square. The future location is RIGHT on the park! They’ll be taking up residence in the old, yet newly-revamped A&R building come early Summer. They’ll be right in the midst of all the goings on, across the street from both Villa Creek and Bistro Laurent. They’ll have a full bar, tons more seating, outdoor tables, and the same great food, staff, and vibe! Read more…
Road Trip: Monterey, California
A couple of weeks back I had some work to take care of in the Monterey area so Annie and I decided to make it our first road trip with Sammy to test him (but mostly test us) on how he would do on a 2 hour and 15 minute drive as well as two nights away from home in a hotel. It was also our last little trip prior to Annie going back to work full time. Read more…
New Food Spot on the Eastside of Paso Robles
This past Monday a new spot opened up at the airport in Paso Robles. LaGuardia’s Homemade Since 1912, owned by Lou and Jen, are now open for breakfast and lunch and they’re eager to see your hungry, smiling faces! We’ve known Lou and Jen for a while now and are very happy to see this idea coming to fruition and in our opinion, what a great location! Read more…
Sunset’s Savor the Central Coast 2012
As the Central Coast (San Luis Obispo County specifically) has grown into a destination spot for wine and food lovers, the number of events related to these things has exploded. I believe each event has something special to offer…whether it be a niche event strictly about Pinot Noir or a much broader event like the Wine Festival in Paso Robles. Read more…
Sea Venture; Our Anniversary in Pismo Beach
On August 1, 2008 Annie and I got married at the Sea Venture Resort and Restaurant in Pismo Beach. But there’s much more to this story that many of you may not know. Annie and I met on Match.com about 5 1/2 years ago and our very first face-to-face meeting was at Sea Venture Bar in Pismo Beach. Guess what??? That’s not the end of the story either! Read more…
McLintocks Saloon: The Happiest Hour in Town
The lushes among you might understand what I’m talking about in the title, HAPPY HOUR! Who doesn’t like Happy Hour, it’s as much a part of the fabric of this country as political corruption, Olympic scandal, and a 51% divorce rate. All kidding aside (not really kidding though) we’ve all enjoyed Happy Hour numerous times throughout our lives…some of us even search them out and try Happy Hour at different places looking for the best deals. Well, look no further than F. McLintocks in downtown Paso Robles! Read more…
Tablas Creek Winery: Let’s Not Talk About The Wine
Well, we’ll say a little something about the wine but I think there’s a bigger thing at play that is not discussed enough. So, about the wine…it’s awesome. We love Rhone wines and Tablas Creek is producing some absolutely amazing Rhone wines. Annie and I love Rhone whites (reds too but man, those whites are amazing) and Tablas produces quite an extensive list of white wines such as: Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul Blanc, and Marsanne, just some of the Rhone whites, while they also make Vermentino and Chardonnay which are non-Rhone wines.
Il Cortile Food Adventure; Doesn't Get Better Than This!
There’s this restaurant just down the street from our house; it’s called Il Cortile Ristorante, which means “the patio” in Italian. Now, this place doesn’t serve up just your regular old school Italian food (not that there’s anything wrong with old school Italian) they specialize in hand-crafted, gourmet, fresh Italian dishes. It’s a family-run joint; a husband and wife team made up of Santos MacDonal, the superb chef and his lovely wife, Carol who runs the front of the house. Read more…
