How to Enjoy Wine…Among Other Things
Certain situations call for certain wines. Not in the mood for wine? No problem, some situations call for other “stuff”. The moral of the story is to sit back, enjoy life, appreciate the ones your with, and make the most of every moment!
Here we go…in no particular order!
1. In front of a fire on a rainy night, with your favorite person – Deep, rich Cabernet Sauvignon
2. With friends, enjoying a casual dinner – Spicy, grungy Pinot Noir
3. On the patio of a downtown sports bar, watching the people go by – a Microbrew with plenty of hops
4. A hot summer day, after a stressful day at the office – chilled, juicy, floral Viognier
5. Sunday morning brunch, with chosen family – Mimosas!
6. Picnic on the veranda of your favorite winery with a view – Complex and earthy Mourvedre
7. Playing bocce ball on a Saturday afternoon – Chilled Syrah (that’s for you, Gary)
8. At a Halloween wig party with lots of cool people – Gin and Tonic, lots of lime!
9. Watching Football and eating nachos – Buttery Chardonnay/Sassy Zinfandel
10. For no reason at all – Whatever’s open!
I’m sure we’ve missed a lot of combos, some close runners up were things like “Cleaning the garage, paired with a cold Bud Light” or the ever-popular “I should stop drinking but I’m going for a little bit more, paired with a bottle of 2-buck Chuck that you forgot you had in the back of the wine rack”. So many things to do in a day…so many wines to enjoy!
What’s your favorite, most interesting, unique, embarrassing, or random pairing? Tell us about it…we’ll give it a try!!!

I love the order you have chosen for drinking wine or beer, you are spot on. Have you ever tried Porto Kopke Dry White Port=Portonic you can make it with (as much/however strong you want the drink) Port, tonic, ice and lemon. We were introduced to it at Wine Styles/Seal Beach and we were hooked, it is very good, we only have it on special occasion so maybe real soon. I guess you can pair it with anything, we just had cheese, crackers, at the wine bar. Cheers!

Hi Bev! We’ll have to give your Portonic a try…we both really like white port, so that just might work out nicely! I’m thinking on a warm Summer evening, sitting out on the patio! Cheers!!!

Awesome Annie, you’ll love it, I’m game to try anything. Lucky me I was watching Hoda Kopy/Kathie Lee (my routine as I look for jobs on-line) and Gary Vaynerchuk was on the show talking/tasting White Wine, check it out maybe they will show it on fb.

I’ll try anything, at least once, Bev! I’ll take a peek at Gary Vee…he’s always got something good going on! Have a great day!

AAhhhhh yes. Nothing like a chilled bottle of Syrah Rose and a lively game of strip bocce.

Go for it, Gary! It’s supposed to be warm this week…perfect timing!
By Gary Eberle, March 29, 2011 @ 10:19 am
Yeah and I’m heading to Toronto, Ottawa, and upstate New York for a week of huckstering in the cold. Good timing.

So you can chill your Syrah in the snow while you get warmed up on the bocce court! Travel safely and let us know when you’re back around and maybe we can get together to share a glass of something and learn a little more about Paso Robles wine country history. Cheers!

We don,t leave till Sat., but I would love to talk Paso wine history sometime over a bottle of wine or 2. We should be back next Sat. night if the head winds aren’t to strong. If they are we will spend Sat, night in someplace like Grand Junction and come on home on Sunday.
My marketing director said we were 1 of the first winery profiles you did, but I went way back and couldn’t find it. Has it been deleated or how far do I have to go back??
By Hoot 'n Annie, March 29, 2011 @ 2:16 pm
Hey Gary, let us know when you’re back and we’ll see about getting together. As for the early Eberle post, unfortunately, we lost some posts early on when we were still young and dumb with the technical side of things. Now that we’re still sort of young, and much smarter (of course) we have a good handle on this thing! We’d love to get you on here one of these days!

Never heard Pinot described as “grungy”… nice!
Port in a sudden blizzard: http://goo.gl/Tn43j
Vinho Verde on a hot beach day.
Spätlese or Auslese Riesling at a BYOB Sichuan place w/ the hottest stuff they’ve got!
By Hoot 'n Annie, March 29, 2011 @ 7:06 pm
Hey Joe! How are you? Yeah, a grungy Pinot is hard to beat, that good-dirtiness is where it’s at! Love your combos…tangy Vinho Verde at the beach sounds good after all this Winter rain and cold. Cheers!

You had us at “complimentary”…hehehe. Love duck sausage and wine together. We’ll try to make it by after Earth Day, but if not we’ll get there soon after!

Hate to start without you.
By Hoot 'n Annie, March 31, 2011 @ 7:45 pm
Do your thang, Gary…we’d love to make it, but have been hooked up with Earth Day for a while and looking forward to it! By all means, keep us in the loop with your events and we’ll do all we can to promote them and make them.
