This would be that quaint little tasting room, with the house steps away, where you feel like you’re way out in the country but Dover Canyon is not far from 46 West or HWY 101, just up Vineyard Drive.
This massive, 11 month old Saint Bernard named Thunder greeted us as we walked toward the tasting room. Although “greet” isn’t the word you think of when this big puppy is running full bore at you!! The website has great photos of Thunder from when he was little too, adorable. Oh, and Thunder also adorns the wine labels, neat story behind that as well.
We tasted through most of the list (“we” included Thunder, laying at our feet) and enjoyed the 2009 Viognier, the 2009 Cujo Zin, and thought the 2008 Carmenere was also tasty and interesting, mostly because we had not had one before. It’s hard to say whether you like something, in our opinion, if you’ve only had one. We hope to try some other Carmeneres to understand the nuances and characteristics a little bit more.
This one would be on the list of down home, countryesque, comfortable, rustic, no frills Paso Robles tastings rooms that specializes in Zinfandels. Cheers!
