French Bordeaux & Rotta
Sound weird? Yeah, it was…we opened a bottle of Tertre du Moulin 2006 Cuvee Millesimee French Bordeaux. The goal here was to help us learn more about French wine. We don’t know anything…and the whole naming convention makes it challenging. The growing regions in France dictate what variety of grape is grown there so, only Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are grown in the Bordeaux region. Well, that’s what we had. We opened it, and neither of us liked it. It had a musty smell and was very tannic in the mouth. What should we do about that? Open something we know would be delicious, right? A Rotta 2005 Cabernet Franc! Smooth, rich and tasty. Now, we weren’t trying to compare these two wines side by side, we’ll do that another day…we just wanted to taste a familiar local red next to the French red. Not really an experiment but more of a rescue attempt. We’ll try this French thing again…but perhaps take a different approach!

Dad – We’re working on our French…it just doesn’t come natural.
Maureen – I’ve been working on perfecting that dance for a very long time. It’s a fine-tuned machine…hehehe.
